What do you value most in this life?

Well. we found a home! We put an offer in on Friday and our offer was accepted after dinnertime! God, right?

It's a little Grandma house. It's small (less than 800 sq. ft)! But, after living in less than 300 sq. ft. for 2 1/2 years it will seem like a mansion. We will have a lot of downsizing to do once we actually move since we saved all our furniture from our last home which was nearly 1600 sq. ft. It has a lot of flowers in the yard from the Grandma that lived there for many, many years until she died at 98 years of age. The absolute BEST part is that my daughter-in-love and my 2 grandchildren literally live right behind the house. The grandchildren (and she) can walk out their door.. across the alley.. and right into my backyard!

But, it won't be ours until we sign those final papers. There has been water damage on the bathroom floor. We asked one of the relatives if we could go in early and help them fix it so it will pass the inspection for the appraisal and they said 'yes' (but only if we were the ones that bought the home.. God gave us favor). So, yesterday my husband left a message that we'd like to come in and help.. no return call. :(

I felt my anxiety level rising throughout the night as each hour passed. "Now what?" I would ask the Lord. "Does this mean we won't get the home, Lord?" "Did I get excited for nothing?" And then, of course, there is the ultimate in pity party responses, "Lord, I'm so weary of these trials! Can't something just be easy for a change?!" (Of course, I repented!)

The Lord quickly brought this scripture to mind...

“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal,  but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.  For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6:19-21 ESV

I began breaking the scripture down in my mind. I camped out on  the word 'treasure'. Am I making this home a treasure? Evidently I am if I'm willing to sin in my heart against the Lord to get it by worrying and then challenging His sovereignty and His goodness.

(Doesn't she look happy and content?)
I have now laid this home at the Lord's feet along with my will. Of course, it's a battle and the anxious thoughts try to revisit. God's Word is my sword ...

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Phil. 4:6-7

By His grace I desire only His will in my life.. where ever that leads.  I really do want (in my heart of heart's) to find my greatest joy smack dab in the middle of His will.

I realized once again (for the gazillioneth times) that God still has an enormous amount of work ahead to conform me into the image of Christ. (Romans 8:28-29) I pray for His grace to lie still as He chisels away at the sin in my heart.

  1. I'll be praying that the Lord gives you the house He has in store for you. Whether it's the Grandma house or a different house, I'll pray that you'll be overjoyed with it!

Sometimes I've prayed selfish "I want" prayers to the Lord. But when He answers differently than what I thought I wanted, I always have to say, "Wow! Your way turned out so much better than I could have expected. Thank you that you didn't give me what I asked for."

Will you please keep us posted on how things with the house progress?

  3. I can certainly second that last paragraph. In fact I've been talking to myself in the same way the past couple of days. God is always refining us, and we sure need it! But I'm excited for you if this is the house. If it's not, there's certainly a better plan He has in mind!

  4. I used to be consumed with wanting to change houses. I would no sooner be moved into a house than I would be searching for another one to move into. Thankfully I now am content where I am, and those thoughts have been removed far from me. I pray that you will be blessed as I know the lord longs to bless all of his children.
It is not always easy to conform to his image, our thoughts and his are not always aligned.
I am glad you have found a house you like, it is hard waiting and wondering but all will work out for your good, a new house brings such excitement.
congratulations and blessings to you Nell

  6. I know buying and selling homes can be a frustrating and nervous time. I pray God will give you peace. If He closes that door He will have something else.

  7. Georgene,
I am so happy I discovered your blog again. I used to follow you on Xanga years ago, actually before your husband sold his trucking business and you sold your home...so it has been a while. I was reading your blog and was sorry to see that you have lost your son, I know this walk, my youngest son (14 yo) died three years ago. My prayers are with you, as you experience the many firsts you have to face without your child. Cindy Loven (cndloven, aka The Random Thoughts of a PW on xanga)

  10. I'm hoping your house has worked out. As far as photos, I have a little point and shoot and usually have it on automatic. I try not to use the flash if possible --put it to "off" and get some good light if indoors. (all the lights on). I also crop photos in my photo program --I find that quite relaxing !! So it is sort of a hobby. I keep my little camera in my purse much of the time and am always seeing something I want to catch on camera...I am a visual kind of person. Wish I could help you more but I have never been able to learn my camera well ... I can't remember what I read about it unless I use it a lot!

  11. Wow... well I hope you get it. I'm amazed you posted that scripture though, it was on my mind this morning. I as thinking about all the $$ I earned lately-- in my etsy shops and savings I have from careful shopping that I've been putting in a account. I was pondering investing the $ and I was feeling kind of bummy cuz I ended up using pretty much all my Etsy profits lately to help my grown children, two of which will be adding babies in the next month. It seems like between all my children someone needs help almost all the time. Sigh... I was just about to feel 'poor me-ish' when that verse came to mind--Store up treasures in heaven. And I thought--huh--I was looking for an investment to make--and here I have already made quite a few. :) I'm investing in young families, something I believe in more than anything.

    1. Ahh Mary.. don't you love how the Lord ministers peace to our hearts through His Word? I wouldn't want to live in this world without Him. Congrats on more granddarlings! :-)
