Marriage, Divorce and Remarriage ![]() - A wife should not leave her husband. (1 Cor. 7:10) - If a wife leaves her husband she must remain unmarried or be reconciled. (1 Cor. 7:11) - A wife may not leave an unbelieving husband who desires to stay. (1 Cor. 7:13) - A wife may leave a husband who has fornicated (sexual immorality). (Matt. 19:9) - A wife and husband may mutually agree to separate for a short duration ONLY to give themselves to prayer and fasting. (1 Cor. 7:5) DIVORCING A HUSBAND - A wife who divorces her husband may have a hard heart. (Matt. 19:8) - A wife may divorce her husband if he fornicates. (Matt. 19:9) *Fornication: illicit intercourse which includes adultery, incest, prostitution - A wife may divorce an unbelieving husband if he leaves. (1 Cor. 7:15) REMARRIAGE - A wife may remarry a believer if her first husband dies. (1 Cor. 7:39) - A wife can remarry if her spouse commits fornication. (Matt. 19:9) - A wife can remarry if her unbelieving spouse departs. (1 Cor. 7:15 UNBIBLICAL REMARRIAGE - An unbiblical remarriage that has already occurred is still considered a valid marriage in God's eyes because of the terminology used, "5 husbands", compared to the reference of the current living situation,"not thy husband." Jn. 4:1-30 - There is only ONE unpardonable sin. Luke 12:10 - Repent and ask God to forgive you for the sin of adultery (Matt.19:9),(remarrying without biblical grounds to divorce in the previous marriage(s). 1 John 1:9 - Go and sin no more by remaining faithful to your present spouse. Put off divorce by never doing it again. Eph. 4:22-24 ![]() |
