Psychology vs. God's Word ![]() Need Psychology/Theology Teaches 1. Two basic unconscious needs of the human heart. * Security and significance * Relationship and impact. 2. All sin is directly related to inadequate attempts to satisfy the 2 needs apart from God. 3. When psychological needs are met then the person will be fulfilled and socially responsible. This means that they will no longer try to fill the emptiness (unfulfilled needs) with alcohol, drugs, or other overindulgence. Scripture Teaches 1. Meeting unmet needs does not stop a person from sinning. Example: a. Adam and Eve had no need in their lives that was not being met to the fullest yet they chose to sin. b. Lucifer had it all: beauty, power, authority, love but wanted to be God. c. Children of Israel: The more their needs were met, the less they relied on God. The more their needs were met, the more sinful they became. 2. The focus of the believer is to be drawn away from self to Christ through the Word of God and the Holy Spirit. * If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. Matthew 16:24-25 * But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord. 2 Corinthians 3:18: Biblical Conclusion: The Need-Centered Theology is a man-centered focus on fulfillment rather than a God-centered emphasis on obedience to Him and preoccupation with His Glory. ![]() |
